In 2002, Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi hit the screens, where the titular hero faced off against the Green Goblin. The antagonist, played by Willem Dafoe, wore armor in the film, the design of which did not satisfy all fans (there were even comparisons to the Power Rangers). The character’s original design was different.

Behind-the-scenes materials can be found online showing tests of a mask that combined animatronics and makeup. The mask was created by Amalgamated Dynamics and was a faithful representation of how the Green Goblin appeared in the comic books.

However, it was rejected by Sam Raimi before Willem Dafoe was cast and replaced with a more practical helmet.

Spider-Man fans, however, have no doubt that the original design is more intriguing, even terrifying, as one Reddit user described it. In 2021, the mask ended up with a private collector. Below is their post along with the mentioned behind-the-scenes materials:
